The starting point was the observation of the numerous benzine stains in the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia, which, in the wet winters, mixed with the rain and/or snowmelt begin to reflect the full spectrum of the light.

Combined with the traditional technique of Mosaic, taught in Monumental Art Schools in St. Petersburg, I created a Mosaic of Bisazza stones, which, viewed from the right angle reflect the spectrum of colors on their nacre-coated surface, just like the benzine/water-staines.

 

The first execution of the Mosaic combines the different colors of the Bisazza-tiles as well as their reflections in a continuos picture. The tiles of the second Mosaic are placed without apparent connection of their colors. The reflection though gives a continous picture

 

 

Mosaic
