Dice

Although dice stand emblematic for luck, they follow the laws of physics. When dice are thrown, mathematically spoken, an event takes place.

The dice rolling machine creates 21 events in a minute, while constantly dragging the dice in circular motion. Over and over the dice rise and fall to reveal event after event. The concept of the exhibition where it was shown at, curated by Irene Pätzug and me, was, that all objects were of some sort of kinetic movement.

After the performance of throwing 1000 dice at once, the setting became an interactif object. I intended to losely construct a sculpture (although nearly 2-dimensional), which, once "built", invited the visitors to modify and play with it, and to transform the sculpture after their own imagination. At last, the 1000 dice were reduced to 42 dice. St. Petersburg now plays more.
